Los Angeles Box Lacrosse League Finals

On Sunday October 27th the Los Angeles Box Lacrosse League held their finals in Torrance. In the Middle School Division, Legion came in undefeated and kept their record perfect with a win over the Leverage A team. The Legion team made up of boys from West LA and Culver City was full of grit, hustle and skill. Legion jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
In the JV Championship, the Cubs came in undefeated and faced a tough Beach Head lacrosse squad from Palos Verdes. The game remained close in the first period with each team trading goals but then the Cubs pulled away in the second and third periods winning the the crucial transition game. The game ended with the Cubs winning the LA Box Lacrosse JV Championship, completing a perfect season!
The game of the day was the Varsity Championship. Which pitted Beach Head against the undefeated Cubs. With stellar goaltending at both ends, the 1st period ended tied 3 to 3. Going into the 3rd the score was again knotted up at 6 to 6 and this championship game was shaping up to be the best ever in the LA Box Lacrosse Leagues three year history. The third period started with the Cubs sticking a quick goal to go up 7 to 6. The resilient and crafty Beach Head boys fought back to go up 8 to 7 with eleven minutes remaining. For the next 6 minutes the game was back and forth action with both goalies standing on their heads making saves, until the Cubs put a goal in off of aggressive checking in their offensive end to tie the game at 8 to 8 with 5 minutes left. At the three minute mark, the cubs put in a goal which seemed to swing the momentum in their favor but once again Beach Head answer the call and quickly tied the game back up at 9. With 1:55 left in the game Beach Head scored off a settled situation to go up 10 to 9. Off the face-off, the Cubs gained possession in their defensive end and called timeout to set up a play with a minute left in regulation. Coming out of the timeout, off of a deflected Cubs shot, Beach Head was able to transition the ball up the floor for a fast break goal that sealed their upset win at 11 to 9!
What a fantastic game and way to end the 2013 LA Box Lacrosse season!! The winners from the Los Angeles Box Lacrosse League will face the winners from San Diego this Saturday November 2nd at The Rinks in Huntington Beach for the Socal Box Lacrosse Championship!
